Deforestation impacts the integrity of ecosystems and biodiversity, particularly the status of many plant and animal species. Some species are already extinct, while others are rare, threatened, and at risk of extinction. Furthermore, inappropriate utilization is a problem. Therefore, sustainable forest management is a crucial approach that requires the participation of all sectors to conserve, restore, and utilize forest resources sustainably. This must be achieved in a manner that provides a balanced response to economic, social, and environmental needs, thereby enhancing the quality of life for the public, preserving local cultures and traditions, and minimizing negative impacts on the sustainability of natural resources and the environment. Mahasarakham University recognizes the importance of ensuring the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems associated with the university, particularly the forests and drylands under the university’s responsibility

1. Support projects for the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems in Mahasarakham University's operational forest areas, which include:
the forest area behind the staff club building, Mahasarakham University (Kham Riang), the Na Sinuan forest area, the University farm, the forest area at Na Dun field station, the Bung Pa Tham forest area, Ban Koeng field station, Walairukhavej Botanical Research Institute.
This covers a total forest area of 730 Rai.
2. Provide support for research and studies related to the conservation, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems within Mahasarakham University or other forest areas.
3. Implement projects or activities for seedling propagation and afforestation to increase the forest area within the operational responsibility of Mahasarakham University.
4. Conduct biodiversity surveys of organisms in areas designated for development into new buildings and various constructions.

1. สนับสนุนโครงการอนุรักษ์ ฟื้นฟู และการใช้ระบบนิเวศบนบกอย่างยั่งยืนในมหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคามที่มีพื้นที่ป่าไม้รับผิดชอบ ได้แก่ พื้นที่ป่าหลังอาคารสโมสรบุคลากร มหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคาม (ขามเรียง) พื้นที่ป่านาสีนวน ฟาร์มมหาวิทยาลัย พื้นที่ป่าสถานีปฏิบัติการนาดูน พื้นที่ป่าบุ่งป่าทาม สถานีปฏิบัติการบ้านเกิ้ง สถาบันวิจัยวลัยรุกขเวช ในพื้นที่ป่าไม้รวม 730 ไร่
2. ให้การสนับสนุนการศึกษาวิจัยเกี่ยวกับโครงการอนุรักษ์ ฟื้นฟู และการใช้ระบบนิเวศบนบกอย่างยั่งยืนในมหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคาม หรือพื้นที่ป่าไม้อื่นๆ
3. มีการดำเนินการโครงการหรือกิจกรรมการเพาะกล้าไม้และปลูกป่าเพิ่มพื้นที่ป่าในพื้นที่รับผิดชอบของมหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคาม
4. มีการสำรวจความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพของสิ่งมีชีวิตในพื้นที่ในโครงการพัฒนาเป็นอาคารและสิ่งก่อสร้างต่างๆ
