Mahasarakham University (MSU) and the National Water Resources Office, Thailand (NWRO) to promote aquatic fish conservation by establishing sanctuaries and common rules restricting fishing during the spawning season and stop fishing too much. Encourage the creation of a fish fund for the aquaculture of economically valuable aquatic species. Aquatic animal commercial reproduction to increase the population of aquatic creatures As a result, fisherman in the area now have more fish resources in the Mekong River, which will boost their future income.
The Wang Pla Project and Community Tree Bank in river is under 8 provinces namely Chiang Rai, Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani. The project implemented by community participating in the project and continue activities in 2022 to present.
In June 2024, the project visits the local network and follow up operations activity of The Wang Pla Project (fish conservation zone) by local community in chiangsaen district, Chiang Rai province in northern Thailand. The project educates to the fisherman to raise awareness about overfishing, illegal and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices in out of boundary fish conservation zone in the Mekong River and on August 2024, hold a meeting forum for expressing opinions and disseminating.
