14.2.2 Sustainable fisheries (community outreach)
Mahasarakham University and the National Water Resources Office to promote aquatic fish conservation by establishing sanctuaries and common rules restricting fishing during the spawning season and stop fishing too much. Encourage the creation of a fish fund for the aquaculture of economically valuable aquatic species. Aquatic animal commercial reproduction to increase the population of aquatic creatures As a result, fisherman in the area now have more fish resources in the Mekong River, which will boost their future income.
The Wang Pla Project and Community Tree Bank in river is under 8 provinces: Chiang Rai, Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani. The project implemented by community participating in the project and continue activities to present.
In 2023, the project visits the local network and follow up operations activity of The Wang Pla Project (fish conservation zone) by local community in Phanom subdistrict, Tha Uthen district, Nakhon Phanom province. The project educates to the fisherman to raise awareness about overfishing, illegal and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices in out of boundary fish conservation zone in the Mekong River and on 3 February 2023, hold a meeting forum for expressing opinions and disseminating.
