Monitoring Aquatic Biodiversity: FishSurvey in Kud Daeng Wetlands
On May 26, 2023, Assistant Professor Dr. Ratchanee Nammat, along with students in the Biodiversity Program and staff from the Ban Kerng Field Station, Walai Rukhavej Botanical Research Institute, Mahasarakham University, conducted a biodiversity survey of fish in the Kud Daeng area. The survey aimed to monitor fish and aquatic species diversity, providing valuable data on local biodiversity to inform the planning and development efforts of the Walai Rukhavej Botanical Research Institute and Mahasarakham University. This initiative is part of the Kerng Station Development Plan (2023-2026), focused on promoting natural aquatic tourism and organic agriculture for community benefit.

2. National Moth Week 2023 in Wetland, MSU

On July 21, 2023, the Walai Rukhavej Botanical Research Institute at Mahasarakham University held its first National Moth Week 2023 event, aligning with a global initiative where entomologists come together to raise awareness about moths, their ecological importance, and the threats they face. The event took place at the Kud Daeng Wetlands, Ban Kerng Field Station, Mueang District, Maha Sarakham Province, led by Dr. Nakorn Pradit and Dr. Adun Samathi, faculty members of the Biodiversity Program at Walai Rukhavej Botanical Research Institute. They shared their expertise on moths and other nocturnal insects with students from Phadung Naree School’s specialized science program, biodiversity students, and interested participants.

The event began in the evening with the setup of light traps around the Ban Kerng Field Station to attract and observe nocturnal insects, allowing for species identification and study throughout the night.
